The fair

The fair's in town!  The fair's in town!  So we went.

The first thing we did was go to the petting zoo.  All kinds of animals including goats, pig with piglets, camels, sheep, cows, ostrich, emu, kangaroo, and tiny horses were there.  We started with the goats, and Keltan enjoyed petting them.  As we moved into the bigger animals, though, he decided it was not such a great idea.  He wanted absolutely nothing to do with a camel, but at least was intrigued with the big birds.  He almost was enticed to pet the tiny horse, but I guess it didn't look enough like Raleigh to make the decision.  After a bit, we took him out of there, and went in search of the greatest dessert food on earth (aside from Aunt Glo's chocolate and coconut pie) - the strawberry waffle balls! 

These, for those unfamiliar, are this:  a big, juicy strawberry dipped in an amazingly sweet chocolate, then coated with belgian waffle mix, deep fried, and sprinkled with powdered sugar.  This was the whole reason I agreed to go to the fair.  

So, we sat down on a shady grassy area to eat those desserts sent from heaven.  Keltan liked them at first, then decided it was a lot more fun to run from Mommy.  He would take off, and look back with a little evil grin on his face to see if she was chasing him.  The little stinker....just like his mommy.

Fortunately for us, he fell asleep after that in his stroller, and we had an easy hour and a half.  

We took him to the pig races.  This had the promise of being a very entertaining event.  He was pointing at the pigs and jabbering, so we thought we had found something fun for him.  Turns out, though, that the speakers were so loud, they hurt his ears.  I could understand, since they were hurting mine as well.  So, we had to exit.

We went down the way and bought a $5.00 ear of corn.  FIVE DOLLARS!  Let me tell you - I could buy a lot of corn for $5 and make it taste a million times better!  But, the lemonade was good.  Anyway, since Keltan loves corn, we knew we couldn't lose.  It took quite a while to cool it off, but when we did, he was munching that corn!  He had an incredible time running up and down all the steps where we were sitting.  Of course, this kept Daddy busy - but what else are we for?  

On another topic - he is starting to form some words now.  He has "da-da", "ma-ma", a variation of "five", and what sounds like "off", though we can't figure that one out.  We very seldom say "off" around here - we always tell our dogs "down" as opposed to "off", so who knows where he got that one.  At times, he will say "daddy", or a loose interpretation thereof, and Inga said he said "thank you" where it was words as opposed to the sounds he makes when imitating my tone of voice.  So, he is moving along there.
